Third-party backup solutions are also available for QNAP ES NAS (including Symantec BE, Veeam, and NAKIVO).
To be clear, the QNAP features no native Veeam support, aside from exposing it's storage via supported protocols like SMB, NFS and iSCSI. I managed to install the necessary CPAN modules listed as dependencies on Veeam's site and have Veeam provision the QNAP as a repo, but doing so required much more work than would any other standard *nix distro.
11.02.2020 · Re: QNAP via ISCSI as a Backup Repository. To answer your question: malware can always access an iSCSI drive. Best practice: the Veeam server should be installed inside a VM. And then I would connect the iSCSI LUN directly to the VM. Yes, go with iSCSI and REFS.
13.12.2019 · Veeam server is virtual on VMware with 16vCPU and 16 GB RAM. It is weird, because I have this Qnap almost one year and this issue start in December 2018. Every time, when I reboot QNAP, I get full speed, but after some days, data transferring getting slower and slower. I tried different settings in Veeam, also I have latest firmware on QNAP.
