Jan 26, 2020 · Font rendering in Linux has always been a bit problematic. Fortunately, in my Slackware w/ Xfce, I've never really had issues with it. My default setup in Xfce4-Settings Manager/Fonts is Anti-aliasing ON with Hinting and Sub-pixel Order set to None. That has always given me the sharpest/clearest fonts.

Xfce only "advertises" to the system: "he the user wants to use these font settings", after that it is up to the various rendering apis (pango/freetype) and gtk to make something nice of it. Just makes sure xfce4-settings-helper (4.8) or xfsettinfsd (4.10) are running.

To clarify, I did install the better-fonts package from Copr and I did enable the LCD filter (solution I found on this subreddit), but even after those 2 fixes, thin fonts like the one shown in the picture still look rainbow colored and just a living hell to read. My Xfce font settings: Anti-Aliasing enabled. Hinting: None. Sub-pixel order: RGB
