If you want to assure privacy, it's better to not use Chrome (I personally like Firefox). Of course, you still have to worry about how safe your operating system is, how safe system-level programs are, malware, etc., but if we assume that Chrome itself isn't retaining any search terms, then using DDG is at least somewhat more private.
