103 votes, 102 comments. I see Manjaro recommended on almost every post, but Manjaro really isn't a noob-friendly distro.

Why do people hate manjaro? Hello everyone, I have been using manjaro for the last month and I am very happy with it. But from what I have seen online a lot of people dislike this distro. To me, it is like using arch but much simpler, and everything that I have used so far has worked out of the box. So, why do some people dislike it?

For the uninitiated, Manjaro is based on Arch Linux, which many consider to be meta, but without the added complexity involved in setting up Arch. It is almost as painless as Ubuntu/Debian based distro and best of all, for the first time since I set (my proverbial) foot on this journey, I landed on a Linux distro that I can daily drive.

After gaming on POP OS, I cant bear playing on windows anymore. Linux has definitely won me over, lightweight. Easily customizable, fun to learn and decent for games at the expense of no multiplayer (for now). I switched back to windows ten for a few hours and its so disgustingly slow and clunky even gaming.

level 1. the_thou_factor. · 4m. Not manjaro. Manjaro has security issues and is poorly managed. They hold packages back in an attempt to make them more stable, but wind up breaking things in the process. Hadn't heard of Garuda before but it looks good. They mostly just use arch repos, which is good for stability.

The learning curved is not that hard compare to pure arch. IIRC Manjaro was always recommended because with it you have resources like the AUR and the Arch wiki wich is amazing. And also because it comes with Steam out of the box (that was probably the main reason why I installed it on the first place).

Sort by: best. Several polls over the last year shows Plasma as the number one DE for casual home users, while Gnome continues to be the number one DE for companies. Id switch back to KDE if it supported Wayland better. Not sure what happened but the release of 4.14 seems to have caused quite a lot of spontaneous hype.

If your point is that people who have no linux experience and no coding experience shouldn't start with Manjaro, then sure, maybe start with something easier and more accessible until you learn the basics. But your reasons why Manjaro is "broken" are bullshit tbh. Yes Manjaro is not Arch.
