Dec 31, 2014 · Telegram on Linux does not support input methods for East Asian languages. For example, fcitx does not work. In other Linux programs pressing (for example) Ctrl+Space activates the input method. In Telegram, nothing happens. Also, you cannot select the input method with right clicking in the text box, as it would work in other programs.

Im using fcitx5 and I think the problem is that I didn't at the lines: GTK_IM_MODULE=fcitx. QT_IM_MODULE=fcitx. XMODIFIERS=@im=fcitx

The only workaround I’ve found is to boot from the advanced boot options, when I do that even 5.8 sound works fine. Just selecting Manjaro from the menu does not work though. If you are using any XDG compatible desktop environment such as KDE, GNOME, Xfce, LXDE, after you re-login, the autostart should work out of box. If not run the fcitx executable. To see if fcitx is working correctly, open an application and press Ctrl+Space (the default shortcut for switching the input method) to invoke fcitx and input some words.

It works just fine using fcitx in any applet, except any terminal emulator I enter, where the fcitx-mozc doesn't even render any character in the hiragana input mode, let alone in Kanji, fcitx5 carries over the exact same issue with additional bonus of not working in GTK and QT applets as well.

It works with fcitx5 on gnome-shell even the author said only tested with ibus. But it does not work on KDE plasma with Wayland, while fcitx5 is working well with Qt applications. I tested it under Arch Linux on VirtualBox, host machine is Manjaro Linux. fcitx5 version I used is 5.0.11. I have only Mozc input method but I think it's not important.

For TL;DR, fcitx is not working on Manjaro + Gnome + Wayland. Details: I could not find the stable version of Gnome edition.
