Photos are synced automatically using the Moments app, and unlike Nextcloud, it all works flawlessly. So the desktop experience for Synology vs Nextcloud is pretty much on par.

Overall I like Nextcloud a lot, its versatile, fast, and has a lot of apps (add-ons) - Group Folders, RansomWare protection, and email attachments. But it is more complex than Synology's Drive and Moments. There's a good more to configure and administer (Well depending on your user count) - I'm just shy of a 100 users with an LDAP backend.
