Aug 31, 2020 · OpenWRT will probably never be as popular as pfsense or OPNsense on x86 because pfsense/OPNSense has considerably greater capabilities than OpenWRT. One thing OpenWRT on x86 has going for it is that being linux based, it has far greater hardware support than pfsense/OPNSense's FreeBSD.

Openwrt is concentrating on replacing the stock fw of consumer routers so id say pfsense would be better. pfSense have some pretty fundamental issues when it comes to their developers, alienating outside help.

In a thrill of anticipation I've started a speedtest, just to find out, that I'm downloading with whopping 50 Mbit/s. Compared to 270 Mbit/s on stock firmware I was very dissapointed.
