How to correctly set the DNS server for USG? There appear to be two places where DNS servers can be specified: Settings > Networks > [click Edit] > DHCP Name Server (Manual) Devices > [select USG] > Config > WAN > Preferred/Alternate DNS What's the difference? In your controller, you will select the USG device and clear its dns. Leaves those blank on the device itself. In the network in settings set the dns on the network itself. If you don't want the clients looking to the USG for DNS put your preferred server (s) here. The WAN DNS Server is what the USG itself will use to resolve DNS (if on Auto it should default to your ISP's DNS). This would include any clients that are looking to the USG as a DNS server.

You can configure DNS per WAN interface - this is what USG will use to resolve names. You can also configure DNS servers per network in it's DHCP configuration - this is what clients that getting addresses via DHCP will use. Or you can configure client itself as static and set DNS there.
